A book of shadows is simply a book used by pagans and witches
to write down spells or as a journal. Some book of shadows are
used solely for spells, with one written in the book then closed as the pagan or
witch waits for it to come true. Some pagans and witches pull the page out of
the book of shadows with the spell or wish and burn it in a candle flame so as
to grant the wish.
Books of shadow come in various formats for pagans and witches, some with hard resin covers, others with soft colourful covers. They are all just as good, some just cost more money. Always best to choose one that calls out to you. As to writing instruments, some people go for real gold ink with a quill pen for their book, others are happy with a pen or pencil. It matters little, again its what works best for you.
As to what to write in the book, your own spell or wish is best as it comes from your heart. But if you are very insecure about your own abilities then just websearch for spells and use somebody else's.
If burning a page from a book of shadows a relevant coloured candle would be useful, beeswax if possible - so green for money, red for love etc.
